Evidence-based medicine (EBM) aims to apply the best available evidence gained from the scientific method to medical decision making. It seeks to assess the strength of evidence of the risks and benefits of treatments (including lack of treatment) and diagnostic tests.

EBM recognizes that many aspects of medical care depend on individual factors such as quality- and value-of-life judgments, which are only partially subject to scientific methods. EBM, however, seeks to clarify those parts of medical practice that are in principle subject to scientific methods and to apply these methods to ensure the best prediction of outcomes in medical treatment, even as debate continues about which outcomes are desirable.

Classification

Two types of evidence-based medicine have been proposed.

Evidence-based guidelines

Evidence-based guidelines (EBG) is the practice of evidence-based medicine at the organizational or institutional level. This includes the production of guidelines, policy, and regulations. This approach has also been called evidence based healthcare.

Evidence-based individual decision making

Evidence-based individual decision (EBID) making is evidence-based medicine as practiced by the individual health care provider. There is concern that current evidence-based medicine focuses excessively on EBID. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has determined that DynaMed (http://www.ebscohost.com/dynamed) may be of assistance to family physicians in answering clinical questions with high-quality evidence.

What "alternative medicine" topic would you like to read about from an evidenced-based perspective?
Q. Just curious what might interest people.

A. All evidence can prove wrong in Time. The finest example is the conventional medicine itself. Every day a medicine is discarded because the medicine with evdences and proves and whatever experiments went behind it becomes obsolete with a new finding. Suppression of a symptom for a period of time is not cure. A medicine can be called a medicine in the true sense only if they cure the ailment metamorphosing the body from the morbid state to a healthy state as good as the original state or better than the orignal state. If a medicine suppresses the symptoms and add many side effects to the body without curing, it is as good as poison. Unfortunately, all medicines which produced from substances having toxic effects if used as… [cont.]

Is this really the kind of "healthcare" you want?
Q. The British National Health Service There exists in England today a sometimes uncaring, often unresponsive and typically disrespectful health care system. This system, as well as other global socialized systems, not created in regard to the patient's best interest, continue to be considered as worthy of emulation by many in the United States government. This continues to be a very much ill-advised initiative. The latest "buzz" in health care is "evidence-based medical practice." Well, let's examine the evidence: There is little question but that the American health care system is inordinately expensive. Perhaps value is being received because longevity and quality of life have progressively increased and patient satisfaction remains… [cont.]

A. By careful Listening - I've determined that: It doesn't freaking matter - what kind of health care *I* want. Obama, Pelosi, Reid - and his liberal administration know better what kind of health care we want. They know better than us - why the government - despite the abject FAILURE of every other PROGRAM - can do this better, cheaper and increase access... The only thing WRONG with OBAMA'S plan is... WE'Re too freaking stupid to understand why this is good to us... and although he's spent more time selling this bill than any other president in 2 terms has spend trying to sell ANYTHING... He, the great communicator, has still failed. Could it be - that it really is not all that great? Nah... Obama will tell us what to think.

What future do you see for religion?
Q. Read or just answer the above question!!! It is my believe that logically, that which cannot be observed, inferred, though evidence-based conjecture, or proven within the laws of mathematics and physics can doubtably be true -- for me, I would candidly say cannot be true. Religion was a beautiful attempt at philosophy and I believe our posterity, hundreds of year in the future, will, by and large, remember it fondly and romantically (forgetting the many of the evils that it brought). Listen to Bach, visit Jerusalem, see the Wat Rong Khun Temple or go to the Imperial Suleymaniye Mosque (all of which I've done) -- religion has really given humanity many, many beautiful things that secularism doubtably could. We cannot forget that as… [cont.]
