An adverse drug reaction (abbreviated ADR) is an expression that describes harm associated with the use of given medications at a normal dose. The meaning of this expression differs from the meaning of "side effect", as this last expression might also imply that the effects can be beneficial. The study of ADRs is the concern of the field known as pharmacovigilance. ClassificationADRs may be classified by e.g. cause and severity. Cause

Types A and B were proposed in the 1970s, and the other types were proposed subsequently when the first two proved insufficient to classify ADRs. From Wikipedia under the

Asked by rose r - Tue Dec 19 19:32:37 2006 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well, could be hives or anaphylactic (airway swells shut, could die if not promptly treated with adrenaline). Other complications but not true "reactions" would be intestinal bleeding, or respiratory depression. It basically means your body just can't tolerate that drug for one reason or another. Q. when i say "non tolerant" i mean they have no prior use to benzos. lets say they take a 2mg dose of xanax (which is the highest prescribed dose). will anything bad happen to this person? and no i dont use drugs. but i know alot of people who do and xanax seems to be a popular one. which i dont know why cause it just makes you sleepy. Asked by opio-coca - Thu Jan 24 19:17:28 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Absolutely. People react very differently to the same dosage of drug. I see this all the time in the OR, when we give a "little something" to help relax the patient while the monitors are being put on... sometimes the patient has almost no effect, and other times, they're barely arouseable - from the same small dose. Although older and smaller people TEND to react more to medications, that is not always the case. Sometimes, big strapping young men are profoundly affected. People who use drugs are taking a risk.
